Easy Homemade Dinner Rolls

When I make soups for dinners, I love serving rolls or bread it with. But I don’t typically have rolls in the house – unless I have planned to do soup. So when I decided to make beef barley soup last week, I needed rolls, and didn’t have any.. so I made some!

I have always been nervous about baking bread, but this was so easy, and so freaking delicious!

Note that there is rising times in this recipe. Allow at least 3 hours to make these. I said they were easy, not that they were quick!

What you will need:

  • 1 Tbsp. Active dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp. melted butter

Add yeast to stand mixer with dough hook and add warm water. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, or until frothy.

In a separate bowl combine flour, salt, and sugar. Whisk.

In another small bowl, whisk together the milk, oil and eggs.

Combine the dry ingredients, and wet ingredients to the water and yeast mixture. Knead in the machine until the dough pulls from the sides.

Turn out onto floured surface and knead for 10 minutes.

Once kneaded smooth, return to bowl, cover and let rise for one (1) hour in a warm place.

After an hour, turn dough out again onto lightly floured surface and with a sharp knife or pasty cutter, cut into 8 equal parts.

Roll each dough piece into a ball and place into a lined and greased baking dish. I used a 9 x 13 Pyrex dish.

Cover and let rise for an additional 40 minutes.

Preheat over to 375°, and just before you are ready to bake them, brush with melted butter.

Bake for 15 – 18 minutes or until golden brown on top.

Serve warm with soup, or any dinner.
