If you’ve been around for a while you know I love deep fried foods and these deep fried mushrooms are no different. I served them up with ‘super sauce’, and hot diggity damn, they are delicious. Even Graham ate them, and that kid doesn’t eat anything! I know fried foods are so not good for you. but c’mon!
Deep fried mushrooms are super simple to whip up as a snack, appetizer or a side dish. All you need is some fresh mushrooms and a few other ingredients and you could be chowing down.
What you will need:
- 10 large white button mushrooms; cleaned and sliced into 1/4 inch pieces
- 1/2 cup – 3/4 cup of all purpose flour
- 2 large eggs; beaten
- 1 1/2 cups seasoned breadcrumbs (you may need more)
- oil for frying
- 1/4 cup mayo
- 3 Tbsp. of your favorite hot sauce
Add at least 1 inch of oil to a heavy bottom pan (like a cast iron) Heat oil over medium heat; careful it doesn’t get too hot.
Set up a dredging station. Three shallow bowls; flour in one, beaten eggs another and the breadcrumbs in the third.
Working in small batches, dredge mushrooms into the flour, followed by the egg, and finally coat them in the breadcrumbs.
Fry until golden brown on each side (about 4 minutes)
Drain on a paper towel
Repeat until all mushrooms are fried.
Mix together the mayo and hot sauce and serve with the hot mushrooms.
I was quite surprised how much I loved these deep fried mushrooms. I could eat these everyday.. ok maybe not every day.. maybe once or twice a month. I think these would be awesome with steak frites.. Now I have to try it!
Give these a shot, let me know if you do try them and how you like them!
